Fine Arts

Brenham Christian Academy has always had a love and commitment to teach and participate in the fine and performing arts. A wide variety of enriched learning experiences and an excellent and highly qualified arts faculty provide a program that cultivates the aesthetic sensibilities of our youth and perpetuates their knowledge of our rich heritage of Western civilization. Formal drama instruction begins in the seventh grade and continues throughout high school, preparing students for participation in several annual productions. Traditionally, the seventh grade class performs a production of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet in the spring using the Elizabethan language. The high school performs one or two theatrical performances each year. They are directed and produced by the drama teacher and are most worthy of support by every family. Recent high school performances include We Will Remember / The Diary of Anne Frank (Spring 2008) and Li'l Abner (Fall 2008). Students are given the opportunity to perform in chapel, school programs and fundraisers, and community functions. ACSI and TAPPS competitions are also integrated in the school calendar as these events are scheduled and announced to BCA.

The high school program requires every student to earn a minimum of one fine arts credit for graduation from the following three choices:

Drama
Students choosing drama will participate in a high school production of one act plays throughout the year. Skills in dramatic performance and theater stage craft will be taught. Students will have opprotunities to create costumes, design sets, paint scenery, learn the art of make-up, and advertise their product. BCA's drama productions will develop communcation and speech skills, as well as cooperation skills as the students learn to work together on a production.

Choir
Students interested in singing with the high school choir may choose to participate. A wide variety of sacred and secular music pieces will be performed. Selections for the choir and ensembles are made by the BCA choral director.

Art
An art program for every student includes art history, appreciation, and practice with a wide range of media. Students' art work is displayed and submitted to various art competitions, including TAPPS and ACSI art competitions. This allows students the opportunity to cultivate an appreciation and knowledge of art and to enter work for judging at the district level and beyond.
