Philosophy Statement

“See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.” –Colossians 2:8

Philosophy defined: noun, [L. philosopia-to love wisdom]. The explanation for the reason or cause of things; the body of wisdom, laws or principles which govern all the subordinate phenomena in any department of knowledge. –Webster’s 1828 Dictionary

A school’s philosophy of education is very important for the parent to study and understand, for the philosophy of education—the internal, the source, the reason, the cause—governs the effect or what is produced in the classroom, in the curriculum, in the programs, within the individual student! Any parent concerned about his child’s education, should always seek to understand the internal body of wisdom that governs a school’s policies, decisions, and methods for doing things and be certain he is in agreement with it. Every parent should seek to know what seeds are being planted and watered daily within the heart and mind of his child. The Apostle Paul vigorously warned the first century Christians to beware of the vain philosophies of the world, after the traditions of man, lest their minds be taken captive through deception and they be led astray!

Brenham Christian Academy’s Philosophy of Education

Brenham Christian Academy operates from a philosophy of Christian education from the Word of God and subject to His supreme rule and preordained purpose of bringing every child to completeness in Christ.

     Luke 2:49-52

The foundation of Christian education is faith in a sovereign Creator and Ruler of the universe who gives liberty to those who accept Jesus Christ as personal Savior. The proper response of man to his Creator can only be shaped by the internalization and application of Biblical principles.

    John 14:6; II Corinthians 3:17

A Biblical philosophy of education challenges the individual student to actively evaluate and advance in self-governance, in habits of work and scholarship, in his knowledge of God, in his understanding of God’s purpose for him in history, and in character development in light of his commitment to Christ. This challenge affects every area of life and learning as the student matures spiritually, morally, socially, and academically.

    1 Thessalonians 4:1; Philippians 1:6; II Timothy 2:15

The educational institution governed by a Biblical philosophy and led by the Holy Spirit nurtures the student’s unique individuality so that, in cooperation with the Lord, he increasingly displays Christian character, applies Biblical reasoning and the eternal truths of Scripture to his life, and fills his heart with Christ’s love and obedience to Him.

    Philippians 1:6, 9-10

Scripture clearly places the parents as responsible for the education of the child though they may choose to authorize teachers to inspire, cultivate, and instruct the student. The teacher who serves in a Biblical philosophy of education is called to exemplify those qualities of character and scholarship worthy of a wholehearted commitment to Christ. The teachers must represent the spirit and discipline of their calling and embody the very goals they teach their students.

    Deuteronomy 6:6-7; Deuteronomy 4:8-10; Ephesians 6:4

A Christian methodology of education includes a series of instruction and discipline intended to enlighten the understanding, correct the temperament, form the habits and manners, and prepare the student for useful service. At Brenham Christian Academy we endeavor to research, reason, relate, and record every subject from its Biblical purpose and expression.

    II Timothy 3:16-17; Proverbs 22:20-21

The incorporation of a Christian philosophy, curriculum and methodology derived from God’s Word produces a Biblical world view – a system of presuppositions consistent with absolute biblical truth - from which to discern right actions and thinking and from which to exercise a proper role in the family, in the body of Christ, and as a citizen of a Christian constitutional republic.

    II Timothy 2:2
