Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize?
Run in such a way that you may win. And everyone who competes in the
games exercises self-control in all things. They then do it to receive a
perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.
I Corinthians 9:24-25
Philosophy
The Brenham Christian Academy Athletic Program recognizes the Word of God as its foundation. Under the direction of the Athletic Director, each sport has been designed to build the character of Christ within each participating student. Every athlete and cheerleader is taught that he or she is a representative of Christ, his or her family, and Brenham Christian Academy. The Athletic Program serves to develop these ideals within the students:
Leadership through Servanthood
Physical discipline
Loyalty, perseverance, and humility
Commitment
An active relationship with Christ
Knowledge of God’s Word
Application of the Biblical principles of :
Goal setting, faith, vision and the power of the tongue
On the athletic field, students are afforded the opportunity to demonstrate the depth of their understanding of God’s principles and truths and reveal the quality of character within themselves as athletes. The coaching staff utilizes every opportunity to mentor, inspire, reinforce, and teach the principles of the Word of God, endeavoring to call forth from each participant the character of Christ.
The athletic program provides students with the opportunity to develop skills in both individual, as well as team sports, with an emphasis on sports that can be enjoyed for a lifetime. The program includes six-man football, volleyball, cheerleading, boys and girls basketball, baseball, softball, golf and tennis (high school only). Brenham Christian Academy Letters are awarded at the sports banquet to those high school participants who qualify. Brenham Christian Academy is a member of Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) and subject to their guidelines.
Mission Statement
The mission of Brenham Christian Academy athletic program is to use the arena of physical training and competition to teach each student-athlete the disciplines needed to build Christian character and excellence in education, teamwork, and leadership.
Introduction:
The philosophy and directives concerning the amount of time each student will play in a game are an essential component of the overall athletic program. One of the purposes of our program is to develop fundamental skills. Game competition and practice are major factors in building these skills; therefore, students should be able to participate in both. It should be clearly understood that one of the objectives is for team members to play in the games.
Objective
The objective is to be competitive within a framework that promotes developing character, leadership, teamwork and game competition for each player.
Game Participation
Desire alone by the student to be a player on a team and to participate actively is not always sufficient. An athletes playing time is the coach’s decision based on the following factors:
Grade level: The greatest level of participation of all students will be at the junior high level, with junior varsity next and varsity last.
District play: At the varsity level, the level of participation of all students will be the least in district games.
The skill the player possesses.
The growth and development of skills as the season progresses.
The ability to function effectively as part of the team; to follow the game plan to put team success first.
The effort, attitude and seriousness devoted to practice sessions, game situations, and practice at all times.
The coach will strive to develop all of his/her players.
Communication
Coaches must clearly communicate to a student if they have diminished playing time due to poor attitude, attendance or participation.
If a problem persists with a student, the coach will contact the parent by phone or in writing to inform them of the problem.
Spiritual Application
Athletics will be used to draw from the circumstances of the day whether it is in practice or in a game to relate biblical principles to the lives of the students (e.g., endurance during tough times, handling losses and victories, supporting those who succeed, and encouraging those who struggle, teambuilding, etc.).
Behavior
Brenham Christian Academy athletes are expected to conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner on and off the playing field. Disrespect toward any governors of the sport, coaches, team members, or opponents will not be tolerated. The athlete demonstrating this type of behavior will apologize verbally or in writing to those involved. The athlete will be immediately ejected from competition, and become ineligible to compete for the next two athletic events.
Cheerleading
The role of cheerleading is one of building school spirit and encouraging team players in competitive games. Cheerleading for junior high (6-8) and high school (9-12) is open to any girl who desires to participate. Attendance at summer cheerleading camp and practices is required for participation. Cheerleaders are given opportunities to assist their parents in defraying the cost of the cheerleading expenses through fund raising projects. The behavior of the girls must meet the same code of behavior as for participants in the sports program.
